Established in 2008, the Queensland Children’s Tumour Bank (QCTB) is an openly accessible paediatric tumour tissue banks in Australia and aims to assist as many quality scientific projects as possible, both large and small, in order to increase knowledge about childhood cancer and improve outcomes for future patients. The bank is located in the Centre for Children’s Health Research building, adjacent to the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital (LCCH). This close proximity to the LCCH operating theatres and Pathology Queensland, enables samples to be obtained rapidly after surgery. The QCTB has close ties with other tumour and tissue banks through the Australian and New Zealand Children’s Haematology Oncology Group and is a member of the Brain Cancer Biobanking Australia consortium. Our work is made possible by our principal supporter, the Children’s Hospital Foundation (Queensland). We have established collaborations with over 45 cancer research teams around Australia, as well as in the USA, Canada, Italy, the UK, and Germany. These collaborations have resulted in practice-changing insights into childhood cancer and contributed to a number of recent, landmark publications as detailed below.
